Zeitgeist of fashion
There are clothes made for men and there are clothes made for women. There are also clothes made for kids and teenagers and there is a variety of those clothes. Every one is able to chose the clothes he or she likes, the clothes of particular style, color else. It is not a wonder for any of us, though if you would tell about it to ancient people you will see their surprise.
For some hundreds of years ago people were deprived of opportunity to wear the clothes they like and there were no different styles, and moreover there were no different colors. People were obliged to wear similar clothes and so cloth was not a means to express one's personality. There were for about three pale colors and those colors were the only colors of clothes.
If take a good look at the development of fashion for men you will see that there is no big difference between the fashion past and the fashion of nowadays. There used to be suits for man, suits of black or brown fabric. Those were jackets, trousers and vests. Thing are the same today, there are the same jackets, trousers and vests, though those are of different colors today.
As for the clothes for women it was developed greatly. It is better to say it was modified greatly. At first there were feet-long dresses and skirts, "blind" blouses and corsets. But, with the lapse of time dresses and skirts became shorter and blouses low-necked. Today, one can find whatever she wants, there are feet-long dresses and the shortest skirts one ever seen, and there are "blind" blouses and threads that cover breasts only.
